AquaNet Sydney Pty Limited, part of the Jemena group, has created an innovative and environmentally sensitive infrastructure solution to meet Sydney's growing need for a cost-effective, reliable and quality water supply. AquaNet Sydney and Veolia Water Australia have built the $100 million Rosehill Recycled Water Scheme to provide major industrial customers in western Sydney with recycled water. The Scheme is providing 4.3 billion litres per year of safe, high quality recycled water to Sydney Water to supply industrial and commercial customers in Rosehill and Smithfield. With expansion, the Scheme will supply up to 7.3 billion litres of recycled water per annum, directly replacing potable water use. On behalf of AquaNet, Veolia Water built the 20 million litre per annum water recycling plant and Jemena has renewed parts of its isolated gas main network for incorporation into a new 20-kilometre recycled water transportation system to deliver water to customers. Construction started in 2009 and the first recycled water was delivered in October 2011.
